Derek is a Principal Lecturer in
the Department of Information Systems at the University
of Huddersfield. He is responsible for the two Database
units, the “GIS and Organisations" unit and "Internet GIS".
Derek has a BA and MA in Geography, an
MSc in Computer Science and a post-graduate diploma in Town
planning.
Derek has considerable experience of GIS
consulting for local authorities, health authorities and
private companies. His research interests include the organisational
impacts of GIS, GIS education and database issues.
He has published widely on these
topics and published a book, with James Petch, on GIS organisational
issues: “GIS. Organisations and People”.
